Jurong West is a large, established HDB town in western Singapore. It is spread out, so the block matters more than the town label.
Getting around
PropertyMarket records three open MRT stations in the town: Boon Lay, Lakeside and Pioneer. The East-West Line serves these stations. The records also list 248 bus stops. Check the walk from a flat to its stop or station, including crossings and shelter, before deciding.
Food and markets
The records list four hawker centres: Boon Lay Place Blk 221A/B (Boon Lay Place Market and Food Village), Jurong West Hawker Centre, Jurong West Street 52 Blk 505 and Taman Jurong Market and Food Centre. They also record 36 coffee shops and seven food courts.
There are 15 recorded supermarkets. The listed brands are Cold Storage, FairPrice, Giant, Prime Supermarket and Sheng Siong. The records do not show how close each one is to a particular block.
Health care
Pioneer Polyclinic is the only polyclinic recorded inside Jurong West. The records also list 61 clinics and other health-care places. There is no hospital recorded inside the town.
The nearest-hospital records name St. Luke's Hospital, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Community Hospital. All three are outside the town. They also name Jurong Polyclinic outside the town, alongside Pioneer Polyclinic inside Jurong West.
Parks and places to walk
The records include Jurong Central Park, Bulim Park (Phase 1), Taman Damai Interim Park, Taman Jurong Oasis Interim Park, Westwood Family Park, Yunnan Park and several neighbourhood parks. They list seven park connector entries, including Jurong West Park Connector, Jurong Park Connector and Sg Lanchar PC.
Check the route, road crossings and lighting at the times you expect to walk. A nearby green space does not mean every other one is nearby.
The flats
Jurong West has HDB blocks across a wide area. For a resale flat, check the remaining lease, lift access, corridor condition and distance to a bus stop. Visit the block at different times. A home near a busy road, rail route or industrial area may have more noise than one deeper inside the estate.
What is changing
The planned Jurong Region Line is the main transport change in the existing LTA material. PropertyMarket records six planned MRT/LRT station entries: Bahar Junction, Boon Lay, Corporation, Enterprise, Gek Poh and Jurong West. They are planned entries, not open stations, and the records give no opening date.
Future rail works may affect roads, walking routes and noise near some blocks. Check the latest work areas before buying if a quiet approach to the block matters to you.
Who it suits
Jurong West suits buyers who want a spacious HDB town with rail access, many bus stops, local food places, a polyclinic and several green routes. It is less suitable for someone who needs every daily errand within a short walk, or who wants a quiet estate away from major roads and future works.
