Jurong East is a busy western town centre with housing, transport, shops, hospitals and major green spaces close together. It feels more like a regional hub than a quiet estate. The town is useful for older residents who want services nearby, but the exact distance from a flat to the interchange matters.
Getting around
The records list Chinese Garden and Jurong East MRT stations, along with 147 bus stops. Jurong East MRT station is on the East-West Line. The town centre can be crowded at peak times, so check the walking route from the flat.
The Jurong Region Line includes a planned Jurong East station. The line will be elevated. Buyers should expect construction activity around the future works and check the walking route, traffic noise and views from any block near the station.
Food and markets
The records list three hawker centres: Jurong East Ave 1 Blk 347, Jurong East Street 24 Blk 254 and Teban Gardens Road Blk 37A. They also list 28 coffee shops, four food courts and nine supermarkets. These serve different parts of the town, so check whether the preferred flat has a simple sheltered route or needs a bus or a road crossing.
Health care
The records list Jurong Polyclinic, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Community Hospital. They also list five clinics and other healthcare providers. This is a strong point for buyers who want both routine and hospital care in the town, but the route from the flat still matters.
Parks and places to walk
The records list Jlg: Lakeside Garden, Pandan Reservoir Fitness Corner/Park, Pandan Gardens Leisure Park and Teban Neighbourhood Park. They also list five park connectors, including Jurong Park Connector and Ulu Pandan PC. These are useful walking options, although some homes are closer than others.
The flats
Jurong East has established HDB estates around the town centre as well as blocks farther from the interchange. When viewing a resale flat, check the remaining lease, lift access, corridor condition and whether the unit faces the MRT, major roads or construction. HDB’s block-level upgrading service is the right place to check HIP, NRP, LUP or SERS status.
What is changing
The Jurong Region Line is the clearest confirmed change. LTA expects the full line to be completed in 2029, with the Jurong East stage in 2028. New elevated infrastructure may improve access but bring temporary noise, dust and changed walking routes.
Who it suits
Jurong East suits buyers who value transport, hospitals, a polyclinic, food centres and parks. It is less suitable for someone who wants a quiet low-traffic estate or dislikes crowds around a busy town centre.
