Living in Bedok

An established east-side town with many train stations, food centres, Bedok Reservoir and access to the coast.

Bedok is a large, mature town in the east. It reaches towards Bedok Reservoir and the coast, with housing from several building periods.

Getting around

The records list eight MRT stations: Bedok, Bedok North, Bedok Reservoir, Kaki Bukit, Kembangan, Tanah Merah, Bayshore and Siglap. Bayshore is on the Thomson-East Coast Line. The town has 286 recorded bus stops. The exact walking route matters.

The records also include Bedok Park Connector, Bedok Reservoir Park, East Coast Park and Siglap Park Connector. Check whether the route from the block has shelter and safe crossings.

Food and markets

The records list 10 hawker centres, 54 coffee shops, 3 food courts and 22 supermarkets. Examples include Bedok Food Centre, Bedok North Street 3 Blk 511 (Kaki Bukit 511 Market and Food Centre) and East Coast Lagoon Food Village. The range gives buyers many options for daily meals and groceries.

Health care

Bedok Polyclinic and Eunos Polyclinic are in the town. The records also list Parkway East Hospital and 39 clinics or other healthcare places. Check the journey from the block you are considering.

Parks and places to walk

Bedok Reservoir Park is the main large green space in the town. East Coast Park is also part of the wider coastal area, although the journey from an inland block may require a bus or longer cycle. Check whether the route has shelter and safe crossings.

The flats

Bedok was planned as an HDB town from 1963, so resale stock spans different building periods and layouts. Inspect lift stops, sheltered access, corridor condition and renovation history. Ask whether the block has completed HIP or other upgrading works. The town label does not tell you the lease left or flat condition.

What is changing

Bayshore is planned as an extension of Bedok New Town, with housing and new transport connections. URA also describes a mixed-use site at Bedok South. Check construction routes and future traffic before buying.

Who it suits

Bedok suits a buyer who wants regular bus and train access, food choices and a reservoir nearby. It is less suitable for someone seeking a quiet estate away from traffic or construction. A block-by-block visit is useful because the town is large.
